We set up the partnership with 100 shares in increments of 1% per share to equal 100%. Forever Young Racing will generally buy at least the first 20 shares as we feel very strong about our matings. We also want to enjoy the ride with our fellow partners. We structure our breeding partnerships to all start on March 1st of the current breeding year. So the first billing quarter in April would be for 4 months to include March and then billed quarterly every 3 months. If for some reason the mare does not get pregnant then we may elect to substitute to another stallion at an equal or lower stud fee. In the unlikely event the mare aborts the pregnancy or does not produce a live standing foal, the partnership ends and no costs will be further accrued or due and the stud fee would not be due and be refunded if already paid.
We will offer two types of breeding partnerships. One is for the breeding of the newborn foal only and the other will be for the breeding of the newborn foal and the ownership of the broodmare.
There are advantages with getting your share(s) early when they first become available:
1) You won’t get locked out of not getting into the partnership. Once the available shares have sold, the partnership will close unless a partner is willing to sell their share(s) privately which is allowed but could come with a premium.
2) The initial investment will be lower which is to include the beginning months. If you join later in the year, you are still responsible for the costs incurred from March 1st as the value of the pending foal would increase throughout the year.
3) Once the foal is born, the price to join said partnership at that time will significantly increase. So get in early while you can.
Partnerships provide a smart, cost effective way to realize the dream of thoroughbred racehorse ownership. Collectively, individuals are empowered to own part of promising racehorses and can retain the services of industry leading trainers and jockeys that might otherwise be out of reach individually. Partnerships offer an opportunity to share in the rewards that come with ownership at a fraction of the cost. FYR offers all this and more.
As a partner in FYR, you are one of a small number of people in each horse, allowing you to experience race horse ownership at an intimate level. This allows you to have access to the winner’s circle, the paddock, morning workouts and the backstretch. Partners are true owners in every sense of the word and receive all the benefits and perks of ownership as does any 100% owner of a horse.
Partners receive:
-First opportunities with any new offerings before release to the general public.
-unprecedented levels of customer service and partner communication.
-updates via email with respect to their horse’s training, breezing, racing, results, strategy, etc.
Partners, including family, friends, and guests:
-have unlimited access to the racetrack including the barn area and training track.
-have unlimited access to their horse in its stall and while training and racing.
-have unlimited access to the paddock on race day to view their horse getting saddled, speak with their trainer, jockey, and with management with respect to race strategy.
-have unlimited access to the winners circle to be included in the photo when their horse wins.
Shares in FYR partnerships vary based on a variety of factors including the cost of the thoroughbred, time of year purchased, where the thoroughbred is racing, who is training the thoroughbred, and the number of months of maintenance expenses which are being collected up front.
Typical breeding partnerships are comprised of 100 shares. Initial shares are no cost for leased mares and up to $500 for a 50K mare at which time you would now own that mare. Maintenance expenses are billed quarterly in advance. Expenses are approximately $48 per quarter per share. Three to four months of maintenance fees are normally included in the initial buy-in. The only other expense during the first year would be for the stud fee based on your % owned. These fees pay for all expected, regular expenses associated with breeding a thoroughbred. Once the horse starts training in year 2, then the costs will increase to approximately $90 - $150 per quarter per share.
Typical racing partnerships are comprised of 100 shares and each share typically sells for $250 – $500. Maintenance expenses are billed quarterly in advance. Expenses are approximately $90 – $150 per quarter per share. Three to six months of maintenance fees are normally included in the initial buy-in. These rates pay for all expected, regular expenses associated with training and racing the thoroughbred with the exception of racing licenses.
While our primary focus is the breeding of our horses, we may also acquire and develop yearlings and two-year-olds. We may also assemble claiming partnerships and breeding partnerships in different regions of the country. Each has its own unique strategy and its own unique advisors and experts.
The one element in racing that forces new owners to leave the business almost as fast as they enter is always TRAINING EXPENSES. Make no mistake, this is the Sport of Kings and for good reason. The cost to feed/care/train a thoroughbred racehorse can be approximately $35,000-$60,000 per year. The training years are the most expensive. The first couple years are the least expensive.
***Forever Young Racing will receive 5% of any earnings from purses and also from if/when the horse is claimed or sold, which is the lowest % in the industry.***
A typical timeline for yearlings is presented below. However, just like people, all thoroughbreds are individuals and mature at their own pace. The training and racing of FYR thoroughbred(s) will reflect that horse’s maturity and readiness.
The thoroughbred will be bred into or purchased usually in the spring of Year 1 and will ship to an off track training facility where it will be broken and begin training. For the winter the thoroughbred will be moved to a boarding farm for some time away from the track to grow and mature. Post winter and spring the thoroughbred will continue training getting ready for its racing debut in late summer or fall of Year 2.
